AlDente overview

AlDente allows you to limit your MacBook from charging above a certain percentage. This will not only decrease Battery wear but also increase longevity of your Battery.

Features:

Charge Limiter allows you to set your maximum charging percentage between 20 and 100 percent. You can either set it by using the slide bar or by typing in the desired percentage in the field above and pressing enter afterwards.
Discharge - This feature allows your MacBook to run completely on Battery even if it is plugged in. Therefore, you can actively discharge your MacBook to a more healthy percentage. Unfortunately, while Discharge is activated, clamshell mode is not supported due to technical limitations.

AlDente comes in two service levels: Free and Pro. Compare the plans.

What's new in version 1.39

This is the first Beta of AlDente with a completely new Backend with support for macOS 27 (at least Beta 1 and 2).
There can and probably will be some rough edges. Please expect some things not to work properly in this first beta.
Please send us your feedback on everything related to Charge control (Sailing Mode, Heat Protection, Calibration, ...) using the new Help & Support page in AlDente.

I can't even install it on my Macbook Pro 13.7.8 (22H730) because it asks me continuously to install it's helper, which fails. This is on the free version, but why would I upgrade when the free one fails, and there is no support unless I upgrade - HOPELESS ALDENTE!😡

I have experienced similar issues with the app allowing my M1 MacBook Air to charge well above the limit I've sent. I've set my charge limit to 60% and woke the next day to find the battery charged to 74%. Like another poster here noted, it seems that overnight the app hibernates and allows the charge limit to be exceeded even though I have not powered off the MacBook. Not great. I will likely uninstall the app and just use the Mac's internal 80% limiter, which never fails.

I've had AlDente on my MacBook for a while now, and although it works well most of the time, it has a habit of going to sleep and allowing the battery to fully charge. I've found I can limit this bad behaviour by disconnecting the charge cable when I'm not going to use the device for a while and plugging it back in when I'm ready to get back to work. I then check to see if the icon is showing. If it isn't, I manually restart the app. I find I've developed a habit of checking the battery level every half-hour or so. This does sort of defeat the purpose, though.

The free version of AlDente is stated to allow one to set a charge limit below 100%. That's all I require, I set it to 77%. Yet, this application consistently fails to curtail the charging process. My 16" MacBook Pro M4 (Identifier Mac16,4) running Sequoia always charges fully to 100%. On the other hand, my Wife's MBP M3 (Identifier Mac15,3) running Sonoma, with AlDente installed – successfully limits its charge every time. So, this user's experience is mixed. I've been using (& maintaining) a generous collection of Macs for 35 years. I don't understand this inconsistency in effectiveness. If anyone has a comment, I'd love to hear it.
